About Patchstack
Patchstack is a cybersecurity company focused on WordPress security and vulnerability management. Founded in 2018, they’ve established themselves as leaders in protecting WordPress websites and plugins from emerging security threats. Their core offering is a vulnerability intelligence platform that identifies, catalogs, and provides patches for security vulnerabilities in WordPress themes and plugins. Their security researchers continuously monitor the WordPress ecosystem to detect new vulnerabilities, which they then document and share with their customers and the wider community through their vulnerability database.
What sets Patchstack apart is their proactive approach to security. Rather than simply reacting to breaches after they occur, they focus on identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. This approach has made them a trusted partner for web development agencies, hosting providers, and enterprise clients who rely on WordPress for their digital presence.
Patchstack also maintains a community of security researchers through its bug bounty program, which helps expand its vulnerability detection capabilities while providing incentives for ethical hackers to report issues responsibly.
The Challenge
When Patchstack came to us, they had struggled to work with countless in-house hires, agencies, and contract technical writers. They all lacked three fundamental things:
- Attention to detail
- Hands-on experience with WordPress
- A pulse on the WordPress community
That is, of course, until they met us.
I had known Oliver and others on the Patchstack team for a couple of years from meeting at WordCamps & developing the now long-standing tradition of drinking espresso martinis. 🍸
When they shared that they were actually looking for people that did exactly what we did, it was a logical next step for us to join forces.
The Solution
Our focus areas with Patchstack spanned across growth & product. We are not as involved in the day-to-day operations of Patchstack as we are with some of the other companies we work with.
However, we are involved with their growth initiatives across the board – working internally with Mart (CMO) & Daniel (Head of SEO) on strategy, taking those plans, getting the necessary resources in place to execute.

Producing In-Depth, Well-Researched Technical Resources
A core part of our work with Patchstack is ensuring that their audience – security professionals, developers, and hosting providers – has access to accurate, well-researched, and insightful technical content.
This isn’t just about writing articles; it’s about understanding the intricacies of WordPress security, emerging vulnerabilities, and the evolving threat landscape.
Together, we’ve built a system where every piece of content – whether it’s a technical deep dive, vulnerability report, or industry analysis – is meticulously researched and developed with security practitioners in mind.
Our Approach to Technical Content
- Research-First Content Creation
Each article begins with extensive research – sourcing from Patchstack’s own vulnerability database, security advisories, and firsthand experience from working with WordPress security. - Hands-On Testing & Validation
We don’t just write about security concepts – we test them. Whether it’s breaking down a vulnerability or explaining a mitigation strategy, we validate every insight before they’re published. - Bridging the Gap Between Technical Depth & Readability
Security content needs to be digestible without losing accuracy. We structure articles to make complex topics approachable while maintaining the technical accuracy required for professionals in the industry. - Collaboration with Patchstack’s Security Team
Every piece of content is developed in collaboration with Patchstack’s security researchers. This ensures the accuracy of vulnerability disclosures and that recommendations are fully aligned with real-world security practices.
From research-driven blog posts to in-depth security reports, our work helps Patchstack’s audience stay informed and ahead of potential threats – while reinforcing their position as a leader in WordPress security.
Helping Patchstack Build A Better Product with Friction Logging
A prerequisite of almost all engagements at ScaleMath is for us to become power users of a product. With that, everyone on our team participates in documenting friction.
Patchstack is not an exception here.

Video Content Planning & Production
While well-researched written content is a key part of Patchstack’s strategy, video plays an equally important role in educating their audience. Security concepts can often feel complex, but with the right visuals, demonstrations, and explanations, they become far more accessible.
Our work with Patchstack includes:
- Planning & Scripting: Creating structured, informative scripts that simplify cybersecurity topics without losing technical accuracy.
- Production & Editing: Working with designers and video editors to ensure high-quality visuals that enhance understanding.
- SEO & Distribution: Optimizing video content for search engines and social platforms to maximize reach and engagement.
From product tutorials to security insights, these videos help Patchstack reinforce its authority in the WordPress security space while making critical information easier to digest.
