Customer.io

Customer.io agency for lifecycle messaging that earns its place

Customer.io is only as good as the data going into it and the judgement behind the journeys coming out. Most accounts have neither problem solved, which is why the tool gets blamed for results it was never given the inputs to produce.

We build the event data, the segments and the journeys together, because they are the same job. Then we hold the programme to revenue and retention rather than open rates.

What we do inside Customer.io

Still not getting full value from Customer.io?

Almost nobody who buys Customer.io is short of ideas for what to send. The problems are further upstream, and they look like this:

  • The events and attributes were never modelled properly, so segments are guesses dressed as logic
  • Journeys were built once at onboarding and nobody has touched the branches since
  • Broadcast volume keeps rising while engagement quietly falls, and deliverability follows it down
  • Product usage lives in the product and messaging lives in Customer.io, and the two do not meet
  • Reporting stops at opens and clicks, so nobody can say which journey affected retention
  • The person who built it has left, and the account is now a system nobody wants to touch

That is the work we do

We treat Customer.io as part of the product rather than a marketing tool bolted onto it. The same team models the events, writes the journeys, and reads what happened, so the data the messages depend on is designed by the people who depend on it. That is unusual for an agency and it is the reason the programme holds up after we hand it over.

What we do inside Customer.io

Scope is yours to set. These are the six areas an engagement usually covers, and the order they usually need doing in.

Event and attribute modelling

The foundation everything else stands on. We work out which events and attributes the messaging actually needs, get them flowing correctly, and remove the ones nobody uses but everyone pays to store.

Segmentation and audiences

Segments that mean something operationally rather than segments that merely run. Built from real behaviour, documented so the next person understands why each one exists.

Lifecycle journeys

Onboarding, activation, expansion, win-back and churn prevention. Built as journeys with branches that reflect what users actually do, not a linear sequence with a delay between each step.

Transactional and product messaging

The messages users need rather than the ones you want to send. Reliable, well-templated, and close enough to the product that they change when the product does.

Deliverability and sending health

Authentication, domain and IP posture, list hygiene, and the volume decisions that quietly determine whether any of the above reaches an inbox.

Reporting that reaches revenue

Opens and clicks are diagnostics, not outcomes. We connect journey performance to activation, retention and expansion, and say plainly where attribution stops being honest.

How we work with Customer.io clients

Every engagement starts by finding out what is really in the account, because the answer is usually not what the last person documented.

01

Audit the data before the messages

We go through the workspace: events, attributes, segments, journeys, templates, sending health and reporting. The output is a plain list of what is working, what is unused, and what is actively wrong.

02

Fix the foundations

Usually the event model and the segments. There is no point rewriting a welcome series that branches on an attribute nothing populates.

03

Rebuild the journeys that matter most

We start where the commercial impact is clearest, normally activation or churn prevention, and widen from there once the first one is measurably working.

04

Hand it over in a state you can run

Documented segments, documented journeys, and a team that understands why each branch is there. We would rather you did not need us in a year.

What the first call covers

Thirty minutes, no deck. We would rather establish whether there is a real problem to solve than walk you through our logo wall.

  • What you are sending today, and which of it anyone has looked at recently
  • What your event data actually contains, as opposed to what the tracking plan says
  • Where the commercial pressure is: activation, retention, expansion, or cost
  • Whether the problem is really Customer.io, because sometimes it is the product or the offer
  • What we would do first, and roughly what it costs

Customer.io questions we get asked

What teams want to know before handing their Customer.io account to someone else.

Are you a certified Customer.io partner?

We are not on a partner tier. Our Customer.io work has come through running it for software companies we already work with, rather than through the partner programme, and we would rather say that than imply a badge we have not earned. If a certification tier is what you are buying, a tiered agency is the honest answer for you. If what you want is people who will model the event data and write the journeys and then tell you which of it moved retention, that is the work we do.

Do we need to be on Customer.io already?

No. We do migrations onto Customer.io as well as work inside existing accounts. If you are choosing between platforms we will give you an honest view, including the cases where Customer.io is the wrong answer for what you are trying to do.

Can you fix our event data, or do we need engineers for that?

We do this part ourselves. Modelling the events and attributes is the work, not a prerequisite to it, and handing that back to your engineers with a spreadsheet is how these projects stall. Your team stays involved where the product has to change, but the design and the implementation planning are ours.

How long before anything improves?

The audit takes about two weeks and usually surfaces fixes worth making immediately, often in deliverability or a journey that has been quietly broken. Rebuilt journeys need a meaningful sample before anyone should believe the numbers, which in most B2B accounts means 60 to 90 days.

Do you write the copy as well?

Yes. Lifecycle messaging that reads like it was written by someone who has never used the product is its own retention problem, and we also write documentation and support content for software companies, so the voice stays consistent with everything else the user reads.

What does it cost?

Engagements start at 6,500 EUR a month, month to month. What moves it is the size of the account, whether the event model needs rebuilding, and how many journeys are in scope.

What happens to the work if we stop?

You keep it, documented. The segments and journeys are built in your workspace with an explanation of why each one exists, so the programme survives both our departure and the departure of whoever on your side owned it.

Tell us what you are sending today and where it is falling short. We will tell you whether the problem is the account, the data, or something further upstream that no amount of journey building will fix.
